Performance Workshop

Did You Know That …?

  • Led by leading Taiwanese playwright Stan Lai (表演工作坊), Performance Workshop is one of the most influential groups in contemporary Chinese-language theater.

  • Its humble origins began in the living room of Lai's residence on Yangmingshan, but the troupe came to fame quickly and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015.

  • The group's performances combine verbal and body language to evoke a poetic atmosphere interspersed by comedy. The Straits Times commented that "emotions are so real … that people are left crying and laughing at the same time.”
