Did You Know That… ?

  • The original set of rattan sculptures used as props in the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre's (雲門) production of "White Serpent (白蛇傳)” was made by Yang Ying-feng. However, the sculptures were destroyed in a fire when the dance troupe's rehearsal venue in Bali was burnt down in 2008.

  • Yang's 1970 creation 'Flowing Sleeves (水袖)' was presented by former Kuomintang chairman Lien Chan (連戰) as a personal gift to Chinese President Hu Jintao (胡錦濤) when Lien visited China in 2006. It was then enlarged and transformed into a landmark for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

  • Yang was mentor to one of Taiwan's most iconic sculptors, Ju Ming (朱銘). During the eight years of tutelage, it was Yang who encouraged Ju to take up the large-blade style of carving and to practice Tai Chi (太極).
