Did You Know That ... ?

  • Chen Chin (陳進) was the sole prominent female artist in Japanese-occupied Taiwan. Her father supported her early artistic endeavors through his fishery operations and the excavation of mountain land for farm use.

  • While she resided alone in Japan to pursue further art studies, Chen became aware of the need to promote the unique features of Taiwan as a culture, and not just as a colony of Japan.

  • In her later years, some of her works featured West Coast cities such as San Francisco and Seattle, where her son and grandson respectively reside.
