A Tribute to 100 Great Contemporary Artists of Taiwan—Sculpture Touring Exhibition

"A Tribute to 100 Great Contemporary Artists of Taiwan—Sculpture Touring Exhibition" by Taiwanese artist Tien Wen-pi (田文筆) will be held from July 20 to Aug. 3 at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

Born in 1978 in Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan, Tien graduated from the National Taiwan University of Arts with a master's degree in printmaking. The vast island of Liuqiu nurtured his strong and open-minded personality. He was experimental with the media when creating artworks and especially outstanding in printmaking. Tien said the exhibition includes sculptures of a hundred contemporary artists he made from 2011 to 2021. Tien expressed the artist's character and state of mind through his carvings. The diverse personality traits of different artists inspired Tien in his creative process and influenced how he interpret his work.

Deputy Minister of Culture Hsiao Tsung-huang (蕭宗煌) stated that while Taiwanese artists create with various media and styles, Tien captures the features of artists with sculpting. In the process of MOC pushing the reconstruction of Taiwanese art history forward, there is a need to dig into the past and document the present to lay the groundwork for building the future. Therefore, Tien not only recorded the silhouette of the artists but also set a foundation for the prospect of structuring Taiwanese art history.
