Taipei's NCPI to launch 'Emerging Taiwanese Cultural Landscape' exhibition

Taipei's National Center of Photography and Images (NCPI) has launched a Taiwan photography theme exhibition titled "Emerging Taiwanese Cultural Landscape (臺灣的模樣)" from July 29 to December 5, to help audiences contemplate the "Taiwanese culture" that has always existed yet remains abstract and ambiguous.

From the collections of NCPI and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibited works were created between the 1930s and 2010, with a total of 350 works by 67 Taiwanese photographers.

The theme of the works includes landscape, people, activity, and event. Curator Huang Jian-Liang (黃建亮) has divided the exhibition into four sections including "The Place," "The Everyday," "Rituals," and "Events," which offer a glimpse into the natural landscape, daily life, customs, and religious practices of different eras, as well as the events that shaped Taiwanese people.

The exhibition presents corresponding and parallel displays of "original prints" and "digital presentations," delving into the core of the issue of Taiwan’s subjectivity by combing through visual images.

Audiences should visit during their scheduled time slot in line with the current epidemic prevention curbs. There will be four daily sessions every Tuesday to Sunday, with each lasting 90 minutes.
