The Ministry’s support mechanism shapes new pottery art

The Yingge District in New Taipei is a major hub of Taiwan’s ceramic industry. Such diverse and modern ceramic creations reflect Taiwan’s rich cultural and artistic capabilities. The Ministry of Culture will help to introduce these remarkable ceramic creations to the international market through a comprehensive marketing and supportive mechanism.

Established three decades ago, Tai Hwa Pottery is very representative of Yingge’s ceramics. The owner invites all types of artists to create with pottery, in the hopes of innovating and upgrading this industry.

Lin’s Ceramic Studio is located on an old street in Yingge. It sells various tea sets of different styles. As the tea culture became more refined, the studio began to work with designers to develop finer tea sets to comply with contemporary aesthetic standards. Their products are now widely popular at home and abroad. This is a firm step toward upgrading Taiwan’s ceramic crafts.

Many ceramic studios in Yingge are trying to transform their business models. Hsu Chao Chung Pottery is an exemplary example. Its owner Hsu Chao-chung has worked with the Ministry’s National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, successfully renovating his studio into a bright gallery. Now he has a venue that showcases the unique and tasteful elements of Taiwan’s ceramic crafts.

Altogether, these local creations from Yingge speak for the potential of Taiwan’s cultural and creative sector as a whole.
