As part of its bid to revive tourism in Kinmen, Taiwan's offshore Kinmen County is making a substantial effort to attract more tourists under three major themes – sun, beach and culture. Tourist-friendly events include sand-sculpting contests and music festivals at Kinmen’s Houhu Coastal Park, which used to be an important defense outpost – just like the rest of Kinmen during the First and Second Taiwan Strait Crises.
