Thai Designer Applies Taiwan Colors to Fashion Design

Taiwan Neng Enterprise Co., Ltd. invited Thai fabric artist Namfon Laistroglai to visit Yongle Fabric Market, a major cloth trading center on Taipei's Dihua Street. She deconstructed elements of Taiwanese fabrics and created both attire as well as two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks.

She also participated in a forum featuring Atayal weaver Yuma Taru, who is refining the traditional hand-dye methods of her indigenous tribe, and Chen Ching-lin, co-founder of natural dyes producer Tennii Studio.

In the forum, the three artists jointly explored the possible developments in fabric art and the potential for collaboration among Taiwanese and Thai fabric artists.

The reorientation of fabric art from "art” to "fashion apparel” was identified as a new opportunity with economic benefits for the cultural and creative sector. Moreover, threading together the different cultural characteristics of Taiwan and Thailand could further inspire new clothing designs and applications of color.
