Ministers of Culture join outgoing NSO director’s last concert

Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te and his predecessor Cheng Li-chiun visited the Taipei-based National Concert Hall on June 20 to attend the National Symphony Orchestra's (NSO) last MD Series performance of "LÜ & Mahler 9" led by conductor Lu Shao-chia (呂紹嘉). Minister Lee wanted to express his respect and gratitude to conductor Lu for leading NSO for the past decade and producing numerous wonderful performances at home in Taiwan and abroad.

As Taiwan begins its post-Covid19 era after putting a successful end to the viral pandemic, national art venues have begun to re-open their doors and breathe new life into the development of arts and culture. As long as vigilant prevention and public health and safety measures are in place, the Ministry of Culture supports the creative sector's re-opening with various performances and events.

The Ministry is looking forward for art fans to return and enjoy live performances and fresh shows together again, and hopes to bring about a cultural renaissance after the harsh pandemic by encouraging non-regulars to broaden their art and cultural experiences, Minister Lee added.

As its music director for the past decade, conductor Lu has helmed NSO since August 2010, ceaselessly composing and curating spectacular music performances to the delight of Taiwan’s music enthusiasts. At this performance, Lu bid farewell by performing Franz Joseph Haydn's "Symphony No.45 in F-sharp minor, Farewell" and Gustav Mahler's "Symphony No.9 in D Major" to a concert hall of 1,700 adoring fans.
