On December 5, the National Human Rights Museum (國家人權博物館) organized a ceremony to commemorate the Human Rights Day 2020 at the Jing-Mei White Terror Memorial Park (白色恐怖景美紀念園區).
President Tsai Ing-wen, president of the Control Yuan Chen Chu (陳菊), Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te, Vice Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Yun-Cheng Kao (高涌誠), members of the commission Chiu-Chin Tian (田秋堇), Hui-Jung Chi (紀惠容), Wang Yu-Ling (王幼玲), Yeh Ta-hua (葉大華), Hsiao Tzu-Yu (蕭自佑), and Antonio Hong (鴻義章), as well as Chairman of the Transitional Justice Commission Yang Tsui (楊翠), member of the commission Frank Wang (王增勇), Executive Officer of the Memorial Foundation of 228 Yang Cheng-lung (楊振隆), attended the ceremony.
Among the up to 200 people present at the event included several victims of political repressions of the White Terror and their family members.
The ceremony opened with a wind quintet piece "Scene Painting of Taiwan (臺灣風情畫)" by Pan Hwang-long (潘皇龍) performed by the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (臺北愛樂青年管弦樂團). Minister of Culture Lee presented certificates of appreciation to donors of cultural relics, including victims of political oppressions Tshua Khun Lim (蔡焜霖), Chen Chin-sheng (陳欽生), 陳列(Chen Lie), 劉辰旦(Liu Chen-tan), and family members of the victims Cao Luo-xi (曹羅喜), Lu Xiang-ning Lu (呂享寧), Song Wen-Bo (宋文博), Ye Guang-yi (葉光毅), Avai Yatauyungana(高英傑), Wei-Yun(魏筠)and Wei Xin-qi (魏新奇). Attorney Lee Sheng-shung (李勝雄) and Ho Kung-mei (何康美) also received the certificates for having donated several historical records related to human rights.
President Tsai Ing-wen expressed that bringing about transitional justice is the most highly valued responsibility of the government. In recent years, the government has made some precise progress in bringing about human rights and transitional justice with the support of both the administrative and legislative sectors.
Minister Lee expressed his gratitude towards the many families whose relatives had suffered under political repressions, for donating precious historical records and enhancing the museum’s capacity in informing the public about human rights.
At the end of the ceremony, the theatrical company Against Again Troupe (再拒劇團) gave a concert "Silent Echo (寂靜的迴響)." Artists Po Hao Tseng (曾伯豪), Lin I-Shuo (林奕碩) and Snow Huang (黃思農), who had read numerous historical records from the White Terror era through the help of scholars, conveyed how they felt from reading the records through their performances.
The "Taiwan Human Rights Festival(人權藝術生活節)" uses reading, spoken word, singing and other art forms to bring the audience back to the days of the White Terror. Furthermore, "An Exhibition on International Concern for Taiwan Political Prisoners 1960-1962 (釋放臺灣政治犯 – 海內外人權救援展（1960-1992）)" is to open on December 10, 2020 at the Jing-Mei White Terror Memorial Park.
