Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, "Taiwan Season," supported by the Ministry of Culture, will take place virtually for this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe on the Summerhall website from August 6 to 29, featuring four filmed dance-theatre productions and four thematically diverse webinars.
In order to strengthen the overall efficiency of the event and foster international connection, this year's “Taiwan season” has been divided into two major units, the online performance "A Glimpse of Taiwan" and "Online Symposium 2021: Connecting with Taiwan."
The former consists of four works that were selected by "Taiwan Season," including "Touchdown (觸底的形色)" by Incandescence Dance (告白熾造), "ai~sa sa (哎～撒撒)" by Tjimur Dance Theatre (蒂摩爾古薪舞集), "Fighters (五虎將)" by Les Petites Choses Production (小事製作), and "The Back of Beyond (無盡胎藏)" by Tai Gu Tales Dance Theater (太古踏舞團), to rethink the works in compliance with the international marketplace and online viewing format. Brand-new video works are created through shooting new images and editing past performance records.
Audiences from all over the world will be able to purchase tickets online and watch performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from August 6 to 29. As far as the Taiwanese team is concerned, in addition to participating in the current "Taiwan Season," its works can also be performed in physical venues, participate in international marketing routes, and open up more possibilities for Taiwanese performing arts under the pandemic.
In addition, at 9 p.m. Taiwan time on August 12 and 19, two online watch parties will be held in cooperation with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival's Summerhall, with tickets available for purchase.
For the first time in 2020, the Taiwanese online forum "Connecting with Taiwan", which won The Infallibles Award in the "National Presence" category, will be held on August 9 and 16 at 6pm and 9pm Taiwan time.
