Taiwan's first permanent art-themed VR Gallery opens in NTMoFA

Taiwan's first permanent art-themed VR space "A Floating Isle-A VR Gallery (漂浮島城-VR藝廊)," launched by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA), opened on Mar. 25, showcasing representative VR works from home and abroad to audiences.

Those present at the opening ceremony included NTMoFA Director Liang Yung-fei (梁永斐), Senior Executive Officer of MOC’s Department of Arts Development Liu Mei-chih (劉美芝), NTSO Director Liu Shuan-yung (劉玄詠), artists Huang Hsin-chien (黃心健) and Agi Chen (陳怡潔), among others.

Director Liang stated that as the world is shrouded in the haze of the pandemic, NTMoFA adopts a new exhibition model through the combination of art and technology, displaying art exhibits in physical and online formats.

Combining the content and technology of Bright Ideas International Interior Decoration Co., Ltd (結合頑石國際有限公司) and Industrial Technology Research Institute (工業技術研究院), NTMoFA spent two years planning for the Metaverse art gallery.

Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the virtual art gallery with digital identity (Avatar) and experience various VR services of the virtual art gallery, as well as explore the virtual hall displaying works of five Taiwanese artists collected by NTMoFA, including Lin Yu-san's (林玉山) "Memory of My Hometown," Kuo Hsueh-hu's (郭雪湖) "Springtime at the Lin Family Garden in Wufeng (萊園春色:霧峰林家花園)," Lin Chin-chu's (林之助) "Smoke," Zheng Shan-xi's (鄭善禧) "The Morning Scenery in Spring (春晨景)," and Lien Chien-hsin's (連建興) "A Seaside Paradise." In the VR Gallery, visitors can also watch three newly produced VR films on three artists: Shiy De-Jinn (席德進), Liu Chi-wei (劉其偉), and Agi Chen (陳怡潔).

In addition, VR films from home and abroad will be screened in the viewing section. The lineup of films is mainly based on award-winning creations in the art category and will be updated every season. For more information, please visit NTMoFA’s official website
