2022 National Art Exhibition R.O.C. kicks off

National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) held the 2022 National Art Exhibition R.O.C. awards ceremony and opening ceremony on July 30. Hosted by Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te, those present at the ceremony also included Vice President of legislative yuan Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌), legislator Huang Kuo-shu (黃國書), Director of the National Palace Museum Wu Mi-cha (吳密察), Director of NTMoFA Liao Jen-I (廖仁義), juries of the National Art Exhibition R.O.C., and the award winners.

There are 11 categories at the exhibition this year including ink painting, Chinese calligraphy, seal engraving, gouache painting, oil painting, watercolor painting, prints, sculpture, photography, new media arts, and mixed media. Gold, silver, and bronze medals were awarded in each category. A total of 131 artworks will be displayed at the exhibition, allowing the public to appreciate these incredible artworks and get a glimpse of the recent Taiwanese art trend.

Minister Lee said that the pandemic has had a serious impact on Taiwan's arts and culture industry for more than two years, however, the nearly 1,000 works selected for the exhibition show that artists are continuing to create works despite the pandemic. To further support local artists, Minister Lee also announced that the prize money for the next edition will be increased and a prize will also be offered to nominated artists.

NTMoFA stated that the National Art Exhibition R.O.C aims to encourage art creation, enhance the creative energy of Taiwan, and recognize creative talents by providing a platform for artists to learn from each other and get inspired by others’ creative ideas. It is also hoped that art creators will continue to keep up the work and invigorate the art scene of Taiwan.
