Mongolian Grand Theatre of National Art to tour Taiwan in May

This May, with the coordination of the Ministry of Culture, cultural venues in Taipei, Taichung, and Hualien will play host to "A Musical Feast of Steppe and Ocean," a touring performance by the Mongolian Grand Theatre of National Art. Free tickets for these performances are available online and for in-person pickup.

The tour promises to be a showcase of Mongolian musical aesthetics, including khoomei throat singing (recognized as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity); long song, a cherished legacy of the steppe; and the morin khuur, an iconic Mongolian instrument also known as the "horsehead fiddle."

The troupe tells of the customs and daily lives of the Mongolian people, using music to lead the audience through the ancient rhythms of the steppe. The troupe will also combine khoomei and morin khuur with piano and famous Western classical pieces, which is sure to be a fresh and novel auditory experience.

For the Taipei show, the Mongolian Grand Theatre of National Art will be joined by special guest Seahorse Music, Taiwan's first band to combine traditional Chinese and Mongolian music.

In Taichung and Hualien, the special guests will respectively be the Atayal Taiwan First Nation M-yu Dancers and the Amis Yuanxiang Dance Troupe. These two performances will showcase both colorful Mongolian traditions and Taiwan's own spectacular cultural diversity.

For those who are curious about Mongolian culture, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Tickets are free but restricted to four per person. For more ticketing information, please call the event hotline at (02)2501-5909 or visit the websites listed below.
