‘Herbie Hancock and His Band’

Place:National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

Hailing from the windy city of Chicago, American pianist Herbie Hancock will be serving up some homegrown jazz right here in Taipei on Nov. 14.

The National Concert Hall will play host to Hancock's second concert in Taiwan. This year's lineup will include his best-known hits "Maiden Voyage,” "Cantaloupe Island” and "Watermelon Man.”

'Last year I was here. The audience was very, very receptive. I had a great time,' Hancock said, explaining that the enthusiasm response from Taiwanese listeners is what brought him back this year.

Hancock, a former member of the Miles Davis Quintet and one of the most influential jazz pianists alive, said he hopes to connect and have fun with the Taiwanese people.

The 14-time Grammy-winning icon said the biggest prize he could imagine winning is seeing his music touch the audience and give them a different perspective on life.

The Nov. 14 show will also feature Hancock's band members: drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, bassist James Genus and guitarist Lionel Loueke.

Taiwan is the last leg of the band's Asia tour, which included Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul and Tokyo. The Taipei concert will be the band's first performance in Taiwan and Hancock's second.

Hancock's album 'River: The Joni Letters' won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2008, the second jazz album to grab the title in the award's history.
