"Withered Childhood - Wu Pei-han's Stylistic Art,” a solo exhibition by Taiwanese designer Wu Pei-han (吳珮韓), will be showing at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall from July 20 to Aug. 4.

A child of the ‘80s era, Wu studied in the Italian design capital of Milan before returning to Taiwan to teach the art of aesthetics at university level. A professional stylist, Wu specializes in costume design, make-up and hair styling as well as fashion illustrations.

"Withered Childhood” differs from regular photography exhibitions because it incorporates cinematic design, painting and digital photography editing.

For her personal exhibition, Wu created pieces inspired by her favorite literary works, especially those by British author and illustrator Aubrey Beardsley.

The exhibition showcases Wu's original ideas and skilled techniques - from setting, plot, design, costume, make-up, prop and casting to post-production. Championing absurdity, weirdness, extravagance and decadence, her works are filled with bold colors and dark humor.

In addition, Wu depicts various conflicts between the old and the new, the elusive and the concrete, and the barren and the fertile, thus reflecting the highly contradictory environment in contemporary Taiwan.

Nearly 100 pieces of visual art featuring original characters, apparel, scenes and props will be on display atthe National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
