‘Blaze: 2018 International Contemporary Enamel Art Exhibition’

The Taipei Branch of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute will showcase diverse enamel crafts by outstanding artists from Taiwan and ten other countries from May 4 through Aug. 19.

Curated by renowned enamel art creators Quintus Yang (楊炘彪) and Wu Ching-chih (吳竟銍), "International Contemporary Enamel Art Exhibition" will display around 300 pieces of enamel art that show how artists control fire, temperature, and time to create artworks that embody their aesthetics and ideas.

Under the theme "Blaze," the International Artists section will feature artworks by artists from Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, France, Germany, Lithuania, Spain, the UK, Canada, and the US.

The international selection includes several different vitreous enamelling techniques and applications, such as the cloisonné method that decorates metal with silver or gold wires to create enamel art with different textures.

The exhibition will also invite Japan Shippo Conference, NPO to showcase enamel art created by Yoshimura Yoko (吉村芙子) and eleven artists of the organization. Their artworks will present how they apply the cloisonné technique, which is called "Jingtai blue ware" in Chinese and "shippo" in Japanese, to create exquisite gold- and silver-lined decorations.

America’s Center for Enamel Art will also join the Taiwan exhibition with innovative and charismatic artworks by founder Judy Stone and sixteen members of the association.

An additional 30 enamel artworks created by Taiwan's college students will also be displayed in the exhibition. The 30 artworks are selected out of the 212 submissions to the 1st edition of New Age Art Enamel Award organized by the Chinese Taipei Enamel of Art Association (華琺瑯藝術協會) for promoting Taiwan's enamel art.

In addition, a keynote forum featuring talks by Judy Stone and Yoshimura Yoko will be held in Taipei on May 4.
