Design concept for Xiqu Center of Taiwan unveiled

Located in Taipei's bustling Shilin District, the Taiwan Xiqu Center will become a new cultural landmark and serve as a major venue for contemporary and traditional performing arts.

Inspired by the concept of “one table, two chairs” in traditional Taiwanese drama, the 1.76-hectare center is scheduled to be completed in late 2015 and to officially open in the following year.

As a subordinate unit of the National Center for Traditional Arts, the Xiqu Center will be Taiwan’s very first professional theater with performance troupes in residence, including the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan, the GuoGuang Opera Company, and the Taiwan Music Institute.

The Xiqu Center will also function as a business platform for the performing arts industry, incorporating theater production, market testing, and copyright trade with R&D at the core of its operations to boost the industry’s quality and value.
