ARTouch presents Sun Ten collection and Taiwan art history on film

Taipei-based magazine ARTouch presents an introduction film titled "Sun Ten Collection and Reconstruction of Taiwan Art History (順天藏品「回家」與「重建臺灣藝術史」)" as part of its program V-Touch.

The "Taiwanese Art Treasures Preserved Overseas – The homecoming Exhibition of the Sun Ten Collection" which is currently on display at the National Taiwan Art Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) will conclude on June 27. However, due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the museums in Taiwan are temporarily closed.

In light of this, ARTouch aims to offer an online tour to showcase the exhibits, at the same time, introduce Ministry of Culture’s efforts of reconstructing Taiwanese art history through former Culture Minister Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), whom played an important role in the homecoming of the collection.

Cheng, currently the chair of Foundation for Future Generations, noted that the reconstruction of Taiwan’s art history is not only a policy but also a movement. The Sun Ten collection is more than just being an art collection of Hsu Hong-yen (許鴻源), it is an archive of Taiwanese art history in itself.

She added that Hsu's collection featured artworks by Chen Cheng-po (陳澄波), Lin Chih-chu (林之助), Yang San-lang (楊三郎), Li Mei-shu (李梅樹), Liao Chi-chun (廖繼春), Hung Jui-lin (洪瑞麟), among other masters. They expressed Taiwanese identity through their works.

"Taiwanese Art Treasures Preserved Overseas – The Homecoming Exhibition of the Sun Ten Collection," opened at the NTMoFA on March 20, displaying 232 pieces of art by 195 Taiwanese artists born between 1871 and 1989, the exhibition features many masterpieces of Taiwan’s art history.
