To allow audiences to appreciate Taiwanese significant artworks during the prevention period, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) has moved the exhibition "Taiwanese Art Treasures Preserved Overseas – The homecoming Exhibition of the Sun Ten Collection (海外存珍-順天美術館藏品歸鄉展)" online starting from July 16.
The works on display are returned from the Sun Ten Museum in Irvine, America in 2019. Instructing by the Ministry of Culture (MOC), the exhibition was held in a physical way. Out of consideration of the prevention measures, maintenance of works, and subsequent exhibition schedules, it has been closed on June 27 as scheduled.
Organized chronologically and divided into four main sections, this exhibition features "Luxuriance—Paragons of Centenarian," "Diversity—Abundance, Contemplation and Radiance," "Brilliance—The Epoch-Crossing Generation," "Emergence—New Ethos of the Contemporaneity."
NTMoFA also presents the results of the MOC's policy on "Reconstructing Taiwanese Art History" since 2017, which bears testimony to the continued progress of the formation of Taiwanese cultural subjectivity.
To provide audiences with immersive VR experiences, this online exhibition uses 360-degree panoramic photography to design the exhibition halls. It also provides more diverse art content than the physical exhibition, which includes high-resolution documents, exhibition documentaries, audio-guided tours of selected works with three languages (Chinese, English, and Taiwanese), and curators' virtual guided tours.
In response to the pandemic impact, NTMoFA's director Liang Yung-fei (梁永斐) said the museum will initiate more online resource services in the future. For example, in August, NTMoFA will launch the online photography exhibition "Thomas Ruff: afterimages – WORKS 1989-2020," and five virtual guided tours of artist's creation series by curators for viewers who are unable to visit the museum.
