NTMoFA launches 'Adventures of Colors, Forms, and Poetics: CHEN Yin-Hui's 90 Years Artist Journey'

To deepen the public's understanding on the influence and contributions of Taiwanese artists from an early period, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) will launch a special exhibition "Adventures of Colors, Forms, and Poetics: Chen Yin-Hui’s 90 Years Artist Journey (取色賦形.捨像傳神-陳銀輝90藝術歷程)" showcasing more than 150 oil paintings, from July 24 to Oct. 3.

This exhibition is co-curated by Liao Jen-i (廖仁義), director of the Institute of Museum Studies Taipei National University of the Arts, and Liu Pi-hsu(劉碧旭), assistant professor of the Department of Fine Arts of National Taiwan Normal University.

To present Chen's creation process from traditional to modern form and the rich personal characteristics of his artworks, the exhibition is divided into seven subthemes "Affectionate Colors," "Abstract Point of View," "Flowing Lines," "Overlapping Perspectives," "Light and Shadow of Time," "Poetic Narrative," "Spirit of Life."

The oil paintings on display are created from 1959 to 2021, unveiling the process of Chen's diligent creation and personal breakthrough in art. Viewers will be able to experience his abundant artistic conception that is firmly grounded in the figurative, flowing through the abstract, and ambles among forms, colors, and poetics.

Among the first generation of lyrical abstract painters in post-war Taiwan, Chen was born in Chiayi in 1931. Since the 1950s, he has accumulated a considerable number of artworks, including oil paintings, watercolors, oily pastels, and sketches. Additionally, the themes of the works feature landscape, still-life, animal, portraits, human bodies, and non-figurative paintings.

NTMoFA director Liang Yung-fei (梁永斐) expressed his sincere gratitude to the artist for exhibiting his works at the museum, as well as the curators for their work in categorizing the art pieces and curating the exhibition.
