NCFTA launches 'The Traditional Arts Zoo' exhibition

Organized by the National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA), "The Traditional Arts Zoo (傳藝動物園)" exhibition will be on view from Sep. 15, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2023, featuring a total of 120 traditional art and cultural artifacts.

Themed around animals, the exhibition is suitable for all ages. It consists of two parts titled "The Traditional Art Animal Superstars (傳藝動物大明星)" and "The Habitats of Traditional Art Animals (傳藝動物棲息地)."

"The Traditional Art Animal Superstars" presents 15 unique animals to give the public a preliminary understanding of the traditional art animals. Furthermore, "The Habitats of Traditional Art Animals" incorporates six units ranging from architecture, religion, clothing, dining table, study, and contemporary creation, evoking people's awareness on the traditional art animals in our daily lives.

The displayed artworks include the Dragon Building Component (龍紋插角), the Qilin, an Imaginary Animal(麒麟), the General Tiger (虎爺), the Peace Delivered by a Horse (馬上太平), the Two Crabs Standing for Roll Call from Emperor (二甲傳臚), the Dragon Wall Block (龍堵), the Fish-shaped Plate (魚盤), and so on.

Besides the displayed exhibits, a video that introduces the story of these traditional art animals is projected onto a curved wall that is over 10 meters. Additionally, two interactive installations are available for visitors to "summon" these animals virtually by assembling building blocks.

Visitors are required to abide by the restrictions, which include wearing a surgical mask at all times, temperature screening, constant disinfection, implement real-name registration, practice social distancing, and with a limit of 120 people at a time.
