A series of Taiwan literary salons is organized by the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office (TRO) in Germany from Sept. 22 to Oct. 27, working in conjunction with the Berlin Asia Arts Festival. 
The Taiwan Cultural Center in Japan has once again teamed up with Books Kinokuniya, one of Japan's largest bookstore chains. This year, the "Taiwan Book Fair" will be held at over 33 Books Kinokuniya locations throughout Japan.
The 43rd edition of the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) will be staged from Oct. 12 to Nov. 5. Films from Taiwan "Be With Me" and "A Girl Out of the Country" are nominated at the HIFF.
Ministry Updates
Echoing the New Southbound Policy initiated by the Executive Yuan in 2017, the Ministry of Culture (MOC) started to expand its overseas offices in the Indo-Pacific region to form a larger cultural network.   
A memorandum of understanding was signed by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) and the Museum of Czech Literature at the Taiwan Literature Base on Oct. 16, demonstrating the dedication of both parties to mutual exchanges.
Published by the National Taiwan Museum (NTM), the audio picture book "Hide-and-seek" (Bih-sio-tshue) was honored with the International Youth Library's White Ravens Award. "Hide-and-seek" introduces the natural ecosystem on the island.
Cultural Features
Lu Hsiao-fen was born into a mining family in Jiufen, Ruifang District, New Taipei City. In 1977, after graduating from a music program, she began her singing career. In 1978, she signed a contract with Taiwan Television and performed in various music halls. In 1980, Lu Hsiao-fen’s first film was "On the Society File of Shanghai."
The Changhua Roundhouse in Taiwan is a must-see historic site that's been dubbed "the last steam train paradise in the country!" This living monument is the only operating steam locomotive roundhouse in the country, and it's dedicated to preserving the fascinating evolution of Taiwan's railway history.
